Arthur Board of Education

Regular Meeting – August 10, 2011

                   The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Scott Daily at 7:00 p.m. in the Unit Office with the following members and administrators present:  Scott Daily, Steffanie Seegmiller, Doug Kitchen, Beth Wiley, Ed Miller, Monica Miller, Buck Condill, Gary Alexander and Travis Wilson.  Linda Collins was absent.

                   Communications – None.

Public Comment

                   None.

                   Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Doug Kitchen, to approve the minutes of the July 13, 2011 meeting.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Beth Wiley, to approve the monthly bills as presented.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Doug Kitchen, seconded by Steffanie Seegmiller, to approve the monthly Treasurer’s Report as presented.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   2011-2012 District Budget – Superintendent Wilson discussed the tentative Budget and data information.

                   Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Ed Miller, to place the tentative Budget on file for public inspection and establishing the Budget hearing and adoption on September 14^th at 7:00 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

ELEMENTARY REPORT

                   Principal Condill discussed the following items in his report:

·         Building and Grounds
- Looks Great and ready to go
- Thanks to Ken Munds and summer crew

·         Registration
- Thanks to Mrs. Marner for organizing registration
- Thank you to all for helping at registration
- Thanks to Mrs. McCarthy and Miss Harrison for greeting new kindergarteners and their parents
- Enrollment Figures – 11/12 = 285 students

·         ISAT Scores
- All grades met AYP

·         Calendar of Events – August 9 through September 30
- August 9-10 – Registration
- August 17 – Teacher’s Institute
- August 18 – First Day of School
- August 23 – Parent Orientation
- September 9 – Parent/Grandparent Day
- September 16 – Progress Reports/Noon dismissal

- September 30 – GS dismiss at 1:00
- September 30 – Parade at 2:00

SECONDARY REPORT

                   Principal Alexander discussed the following items in his report:

- Buildings looks great

§  Registration
- Jr High students – 66 total
- High School students – 129 total

§  Activity Fund

§  Football Numbers
- 4 Seniors, 4 Juniors, 9 Sophomores and 13 Freshmen
    (6 total from Lovington)

§  Volleyball Numbers
- 3 Seniors, 7 Juniors, 7 Sophomores and 6 Freshmen

§  Congratulations to Mrs. Flavin for receiving a grant from Global Fest in June to offset the transportation cost to attend

§  LOVC Librarians met 3 times over summer

§  Calendar Dates – August 10 through August 26

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

                   Superintendent Wilson discussed the following items in his report:

·         Fall Meeting at Mattoon H.S. – September 22^nd

·         School Board Convention – November 18 – 20, 2011

·         ROE Breakfast at Arthur today
- 160 People/went well

·         Cafeteria received certificates on Cleanliness

                   Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Beth Wiley, to discard executive session tapes from July through December 2009.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Press Policy Issue No. 76 – Discussed press policy for approval next month.

Board Comment

Ø  The facilities and grounds look nice

Ø  The bench at the grade school, dedicated to Jason Ray is an attractive addition

Ø  Open minded about Atwood’s initial reorganization proposal – mostly positive responses

                   Closed Session – Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Doug Kitchen, to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing employment of district personnel and negotiations.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Ed Miller, to return to open session.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Doug Kitchen, to approve the minutes of the closed session meeting.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Monica Miller, to accept the resignation from Kenny Crossman as Junior High Boys Assistant Basketball Coach.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
