Arthur Board of Education
Regular Meeting April 13, 2011
The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Scott Daily at 7:00 p.m. in the Unit Office with the following members and administrators present: Scott Daily, Doug Kitchen, Steffanie Seegmiller, Ronnie Cole, Linda Collins, Monica Miller, Buck Condill, Gary Alexander and Travis Wilson. Mike Hilgenberg was absent.
Communications The following thank you notes were read from: Debbie Flavin and students thanking the Board of Education, Mr. Wilson and Mr. Alexander for the opportunity to attend Global Fest; Vine Street Christian Church thanked the district for use of the gym for the dinner theater; thank you from Arthur Jr/Sr high staff for the hard work, time and commitment for our students; and Lovington High School Faculty is looking forward to working together as a team in the years to come.
Public Comment
None.
Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Linda Collins, to approve the minutes of the March 9, 2011 meeting. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Steffanie Seegmiller, to approve the monthly bills as presented. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Steffanie Seegmiller, to approve the Treasurers Report as presented. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Third Quarter Financial Report Superintendent Wilson discussed the report receipts are at 91.99% and Expenditures at 77.24%.
Amish Representative Discussion Principal Condill discussed with the Board Members and Amish Representatives the following items:

The Amish Representatives appreciate everything the Board
does for them. The Board appreciates the service the representatives provide
the district. There are good communications.
ELEMENTARY REPORT
Principal Condill discussed the following items in his report:

-Thank you to all the Volunteers
-Total Sales - $4,538.65
-Cash Profit - $684.67
-Scholastic Dollars - $1,250 (Books divided among teachers)
-Thanks to teachers/custodial staff for having the rooms and building ready and
looking good for our visitors
-Special thanks to Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Thomas for their work on the Wax Museum

SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT
Superintendent Wilson discussed the following items in his report:
· Decorated Eggs
· Summer Work
· Track Report
· Superintendent Meeting in Springfield
· Energy Efficiency Grant (Roof) #351 on List
· Packet Articles
School Board Goals Superintendent Wilson feels the board has done a good job working toward and attaining district goals. The Board will focus on Annexation implementation.
Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to adopt Press Policy Issue #75 as recommended. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Amend 2010-11 School Calendar Superintendent Wilson recommends we use the remaining snow day on May 13, 2011 as an emergency day.
Motion was made by Doug Kitchen, seconded by Steffanie Seegmiller, to amend the 2010-11 Calendar as presented. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Annexation Superintendent Wilson thanked everyone for their support and is excited about the annexation. Members want to extend a welcome invitation to the Lovington School Board members. Thanked the committee of 5/10 for their outstanding job. Impressed with how the Lovington people supported the annexation.
Superintendent Wilson recommends they have a special meeting on April 27 to seat the new board members.
Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Monica
Miller, to designate May 2 6, 2011 as Teacher Appreciation Week. Motion
carried unanimously by roll call vote.
BOARD COMMENT
Scott Daily attended the Wax Museum at the grade school and found it very neat. He thanked everyone that helped with the annexation and all their effort. He reported people are impressed with the behavior of the Arthur kids at track meets.
Ronnie Cole said hats off to the school board members and ones from years past. They have built a fantastic base and Board has kept a base core thought to provide the best education.
Closed Session Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to go into closed session for the purpose discussing employment of district personnel and negotiations. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to return to open session. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to approve the minutes of the closed session meeting. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Linda Collins, to employ Rachel Kauffman as Third Grade Teacher for the 2011-2012 school year. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
