These are lesson plans or activities that our teachers have developed or
found in other sources for use in their classrooms.
Painting Bromeliads--We used the video Plants of the Rain
Forest (see resources above for video information) to learn to paint bromeliads.
The artist on the video shows step by step directions for drawing and painting
very realistic bromeliads. She also shows bromeliads in the rain forest and
potted ones that the students use to help draw. We used water paints mixed
with white tempera. To see one of our paintings
Making Bromeliads--We made paper bromeliads using toliet
paper tubes, construction paper, and gummy frogs. The patterns for this activity
can be found in Rain Forest: Tropical Treasures from The National Wildlife
Federation (see resources above). You cut 4 sets of jagged leaves from green
construction paper and glue each around the toilet paper tube moving each
layer down to cover the tube. Then cut a blue circle to fit in the top to
represent water. Glue your gummy frog as you wish. To see our bromiliads
